Subordinate offices

The pharmacopoeial laboratories situated at Ghaziabad have been set up as national drug testing laboratories to lay down the standards and undertake testing for identity, purity and quality of drugs under the respective medical systems. The worked out standards are published as monographs under the respective pharmacopoeias. The Ayurved Hospital at New Delhi, established in 1978, provides general and specialized therapies in Ayurveda.

Central public sector undertaking

Established at Mohan (Almora Dist.), Uttarakhand, Indian Medicines Pharmaceutical Corporation (IMPCL) manufactures over 300 authentic Ayurvedic and Unani medicines according to classic texts for catering to the needs of dispensaries of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), units of Central Research Councils of Ayurveda and Unani and state government institutions. A cGMP certified lab, it attained a record sale of Rs. 8.42 crores in the year 2005–2006.

Statutory regulatory councils

The statutory regulatory councils are the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and the Central Council for Homeopathy (CCH). Set up under the Acts of Parliament, these councils are primarily concerned with regulating education and practice of the respective systems of medicine. They advise the government regarding education, prescribe course curricula, evolve and maintain standards of education and maintain Central Registers of Practitioners in these medical systems.
