Primarily an agricultural state with almost 80% of its land under cultivation, 3.52% of its geographic area is under notified forest. Thorny dry deciduous forest and thorny shrubs can be found all over the state. Shiwaliks of Haryana are a large source of a number of valuable medicinal plants and about 40 species are collected from the forests legally and illegally.
