The first planned city of India, Chandigarh is located near the foothills of the Shivalik range of Himalayas in northwest India. Most of the city being covered by dense banyan and eucalyptus plantations, Asoka, cassia and mulberry trees flourish in the forested ecosystem that surround the city.
