Known as alfalfa or Lucerne, it is the most cultivated forage legume in the world. A perennial flowering plant in the pea family it is cultivated in the United States, Canada, Argentina, France, Australia, the Middle East, South Africa and many other countries.
Alfalfa is rich in several essential vitamins such as the complete spectrum of B vitamins, vitamins A, D, E and K. Iron, niacin, biotin, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and potassium are adequately present in it and when burnt, ashes of alfalfa are rich in calcium. It is high in protein content (25%) and is a good source of chlorophyll.
Cosmetic use
Alfalfa extracts are used in skin care products as antioxidants due to their nutritional content.
