Centre for Research in Indian Systems of Medicine (CRISM) is an Indo–US joint venture whose aim is to facilitate scientific validation and acceptance of ISM through collaborative research between India and the United States. It was jointly initiated under Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for scientific cooperation in the field of botanicals between CSIR through its constituent Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu with University of Mississippi through NCNPR in 2005. Department of AYUSH, CSIR, NCNPR and other external agencies including industry both in India and the United States are the partners of CRISM.

Department of AYUSH, having provided the financial support to this venture, also provides the necessary skill, expertise, knowledge and resources through its constituent councils, departments and other associated institutes engaged in R&D and teaching in areas of ISM and natural products for the development of ISM/herbal and botanical pharmaceuticals.
